Introduction The problem of brain activation detection in PET activation maps has essentially been approached in terms of statistical analysis (1). Although these analyses have been validated in a wide range of applications, there are many problems with their applications to individual analysis. Also, anatomical averaging performed to increase the SNR leads to a poor localisation. We propose here a new method based on the description of the whole structure of individual PET di erence images. This description uses a linear scale-space (2) and the de nition of particular 5-dimensional objects in this scale-space. Point of view Instead of directly de ning a map of statistical values computed from a set of PET images, we advocate for an explicit structure-based description of each of the di erence images. This description should contain all the structures in the image, with a useful hierarchical representation of them. Moreover, this representation must be synthetic enough to allow comparisons with other images, either from the same subject or from di erent subjects. The key aspect of this method is that it preserves individual information.

Generalized lymph node activation after Influenza vaccination on 18F FDG-PET/CT imaging, an important pitfall in PET interpretation

We report on a 59-year-old female patient with an infected vascular graft investigated with 18F FDG-PET/CT. The first of two studies showed FDG activity in the left deltoid and ipsilateral axillary lymph nodes explained by influenza vaccination the day prior. The second 18F FDG-PET/CT showed multiple FDG-avid lymph nodes on both sides of the diaphragm without tracer accumulation at the vaccinat...

Comparing 511 keV Attenuation Maps Obtained from Different Energy Mapping Methods for CT Based Attenuation Correction of PET Data

Introduction:  The  advent  of  dual-modality  PET/CT  scanners  has  revolutionized  clinical  oncology  by  improving lesion localization and facilitating treatment planning for radiotherapy. In addition, the use of  CT images for CT-based attenuation correction (CTAC) decreases the overall scanning time and creates  a noise-free  attenuation  map  (6map).  CTAC  methods  include  scaling,  s...

Compatibilization of polycarbonate/poly (ethylene terephthalate) blends by addition of their transesterification product

In this study, poly carbonate (PC) and poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) were reactive melt-blended under two different conditions to produce PC/PET copolymers. For each condition, samples were taken at specified mixing times representative a specific structure of copolymers and each one employed to physically compatibilize a PC/PET blend with a fixed composition. Reactive blending and copoly...

CBF changes during brain activation: fMRI vs. PET.

The changes in regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) associated with the changes in neuronal activity are routinely measured both by positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) techniques. However, direct comparison has not been performed to determine similarities and differences of PET and fMRI techniques in determining the rCBF response to brain activatio...

Structure of the Fixed Point of Condensing Set-Valued Maps

In this paper, we present structure of the fixed point set results for condensing set-valued map. Also, we prove a generalization of the Krasnosel'skii-Perov connectedness principle to the case of condensing set-valued maps.
